Privacy Policy

Effective date: October 26, 2026

Backpack Studio ("we", "our", or "us") operates the Backpack Studio mobile application and website (the "Service"). This Privacy Policy describes how we collect, use, and protect your information when you use the Service.

By using the Service, you agree to the collection and use of information in accordance with this Privacy Policy.

1. Definitions

Service: The website and Backpack Studio mobile application operated by Backpack Studio.

Personal Data: Information that can be used to identify a living individual.

Usage Data: Information about how the Service is used, including technical, diagnostic, and delivery information.

Cookies: Small data files stored on your device that help improve your experience.

2. Information We Collect

a. Account information and content

If you sign in, we use Firebase Authentication to process your account identifier and the profile information supplied by your sign-in provider, such as your name and email address. We also process account settings, subscription status, and information you send to support.

We process the audio, video, artwork, text, and associated metadata that you choose to upload, publish, stream, or submit for cloud processing. Content you publish through podcast feeds, public pages, or live streams can be accessed by others.

b. Diagnostics, usage, and delivery information

Technical information can include device and operating-system details, app version, crash reports, app events, IP addresses, request times, and browser or player information. Firebase Crashlytics helps diagnose errors and can associate crash reports with your Firebase account identifier.

For hosted podcasts and media, we process delivery requests to produce download statistics, approximate geography based on network information, and player or client breakdowns. These statistics do not establish that a person listened to an entire episode.

c. Website cookies and app measurement

Our website uses Google Analytics and Google Ads tags to measure visits, interactions, and advertising conversions. Google and other service providers may receive device, browser, network, and interaction information and use cookies or similar technologies. You can manage cookies through your browser and advertising preferences through your Google account.

The app uses Meta App Events to measure app activation and subscription conversions. Events can include the subscription product, purchase-session identifier, currency, and value. Collection of Apple's advertising identifier (IDFA) is disabled in our Meta SDK configuration.

3. How We Use Your Data

We use information to:

The specific restrictions on Google account data in section 6 apply separately from our website and app measurement activities.

4. Data Storage and Transfer

Some recordings and project files remain on your device. Using hosting, streaming, or cloud-processing features sends the content needed for those features to our systems and service providers. We use infrastructure including Google Firebase, Cloudflare, and DigitalOcean for accounts, databases, hosting, storage, delivery, and processing. Information may be processed in the United States and other countries where these providers operate.

Storage depends on the feature. User-created local project files are managed on your device; published content is managed through hosting; and operational records, diagnostics, and backups may have different retention periods. To ask about information we hold, or to request access, correction, or deletion, contact [email protected]. Removing content from Backpack does not remove copies already downloaded or retained by other people or services.

5. Payment Information

We use Apple In-App Purchases to process payments. We do not receive your payment-card details. We process subscription and transaction information to verify access to paid features. Please refer to Apple's privacy policy:

https://www.apple.com/legal/privacy/en-ww/

6. Service Providers and Optional Integrations

We share the information needed to operate the features described above with our hosting, authentication, storage, diagnostics, analytics, and advertising-measurement providers. Their processing is also described in their policies, including the Google Privacy Policy, Cloudflare Privacy Policy, and Meta Privacy Policy.

Optional AI and cloud processing

When you request a cloud-based AI feature, the inputs needed for that request, such as audio, transcripts, prompts, or selected reference images, are sent through our services to the relevant processing provider. Depending on the feature, these providers include OpenAI, Google Vertex AI, ElevenLabs, fal, and Replicate. We also process generated results and usage records to return your results and operate the feature. On-device processing does not require sending its input to a cloud AI provider.

Google Sign-In and Google Drive import

Connecting Google is optional. Google Sign-In provides the identity and authorization information needed for the Google features you choose. For Drive import, we request read-only Drive access to list and browse files and folders and download files you select. This permission can allow access across your Drive; the import feature does not edit or delete your Drive files. Selected files are downloaded to your device for use in Backpack. If you subsequently choose to publish or cloud-process an imported file, it is handled as described above.

YouTube uploads

Backpack Studio uses YouTube API Services. If you authorize YouTube uploading, the app sends the video you select and its title, description, privacy setting, and audience setting directly from your device to YouTube. It receives the upload result, video identifier, and basic destination-channel details, including the channel title and identifier, to confirm where the video was uploaded and show a link to it. The upload permission is used for this user-initiated feature. Google's handling of your information is described in the Google Privacy Policy.

Google authorization, use, and deletion controls

Google Sign-In manages authorization credentials in your device's Keychain. The app sends access tokens to Google when making authorized API requests; the current Drive import and YouTube upload flows do not send those Google credentials to Backpack's servers. We do not receive your Google password.

Our use and transfer of information received from Google APIs follows the Google API Services User Data Policy, including its Limited Use requirements. We do not sell Google user data or use it for advertising. We use that information for the features you authorize.

You can withdraw Backpack's Google authorization using Disconnect Google account in the app's YouTube upload screen or at any time through Google's account permissions page. Disconnecting revokes the shared Google connection, including Drive access, so you must reconnect to use those features again. Revoking access does not delete files already imported to your device or videos already uploaded to YouTube. Remove local files using Backpack's file controls and manage or delete uploaded videos in YouTube. For questions, complaints, or requests to delete Google-related information held by Backpack, contact [email protected].

7. Children's Privacy

The Service is not directed to individuals under the age of 18. We do not knowingly collect data from children. If we discover that such data was collected, we will delete it immediately.

8. Security

We use industry-standard measures to protect your data, but no method is 100% secure. We take reasonable precautions to safeguard your information.

9. Changes to This Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. Changes will be posted here with a new effective date. You are encouraged to review it periodically.
