Tap an empty pad to load a sound
Tap any empty gray pad. Backpack presents six direct ways to fill it:
iCloud or Device
Open a file from iCloud or from local storage and other apps on your device.
Files
Import a recording you already made inside Backpack Studio.
Dropbox
Load a sound from your Dropbox account.
Google Drive
Load a sound stored in Google Drive.
Music from Finder
On your Mac, use the Music section in Finder to sync audio files to the device first.
Record
Use the red record button to capture a new sound directly into the sound pad.
File Library gives you ready-made sounds.

Generate, batch-import, and arrange
Create sounds with AI
Describe the sound you want—for example, a sci-fi laser zap—and tap Create Sound. Backpack makes three named variations. Preview each one, then choose Add to Pad when you find the right version.
Import multiple files
For a whole folder or several files, choose Import Multiple Files. Pick the source, then select sounds just as you would select multiple pictures in your photo library. Backpack builds the pads for you.
Put everything in performance order
Open Pad Arranger, press and hold a pad, and drag it into place. The surrounding pads move out of the way while you arrange the board.

The Pad Editor controls the sound, appearance, position, and playback behavior of that pad.
Sound and identity
Trash removes the pad. Choose a pad color, tap the pencil to rename it, and use Pad Image to add a picture from the photo library or camera—or generate one with AI.
Volume
Use the volume dial to balance the pad against the rest of the soundboard.
Loop
Loop repeats the sound continuously until you stop it.
Fade
Fade is enabled when its control is green. Tap it to disable fading. Change the fade length and curve in Backpack’s main settings.
Auto Rewind
When enabled, playback starts from the beginning marker every time. Turn it off to resume from the point where you stopped.
Ducking
Duck is enabled when green. With the microphone on, that pad automatically drops beneath your voice. Disable Duck to keep it at full volume while the mic is active.
Pin
Pin keeps the pad in the same position while you switch between soundboard pages.
Move
Move sends the pad to a different position on the soundboard.
In and Out Points
Tap the waveform’s in-point or out-point to open the trim screen, then set the exact beginning and end of the sound.
Play Next Pad
Play Next automatically starts the next available unpinned pad when the sound finishes. Enable it on several pads in a row for a hands-free sequence.
Shortcuts
Assign pad triggers to Siri, MIDI, or the keyboard.
Before you perform
Set the live mixer
Open the mixer before the show. Mix controls the microphone, Pad controls the soundboard, and Master controls the final output. Watch the meters and leave enough headroom to prevent clipping. Use Monitor Mic while setting the microphone level.
